[title] lately you're all I need
[characters] doumeki/watanuki
[contains] watanuki
[words] 193
[summary] in which Doumeki reflects on Watanuki and draws a conclusion.
He’d seen that smile a few times, passing that odd boy in glasses from the other class, walking next to some girl with crazy curly hair in pigtails. He’s later come to know them as Watanuki and Kunogi, but at the time they were simply other people, entities that were not Shizuka and therefore had only apathy directed at them. It wasn’t that he saw others as particularly below his notice, it was simple that he just didn’t care about much anymore. He’d never really wanted to connect with anyone after his grandfather’s death, choosing to keep aloof and focus entirely on archery, which required very little emotionally.
That was when he was fifteen.
Now he’s eighteen and he’s seen Watanuki laugh, smile, cry, scream, and pout. He’s seen Watanuki scared, Watanuki confused, Watanuki huffy and Watanuki ecstatic (primarily in Kunogi’s presence). And they are interesting expressions (most of them, but he really does hate seeing Watanuki cry), things that he’s actually come to care about and the only thing he can regret is that he’s never made Watanuki smile.
All in all, Shizuka supposes, it really just means he’s bad with relationships.
